Moving costs
How Much Does It Cost to Move to Bahrain?
There is no single fixed price for moving from the UK to Bahrain. The
cost depends on the shipment volume, collection and delivery addresses,
shipping method, packing, customs process and any storage or specialist
services.
Shipment Volume
Household sea-freight shipments are commonly calculated by volume. The
more space the goods occupy, the more packing material, labour, warehouse
capacity and container space are required.
A home or video survey is more useful than estimating from the number of
bedrooms. Two homes of the same size can contain very different volumes.
Shared or Dedicated Container
Shared-container shipping is usually more economical for a smaller move
because the customer pays for only part of the container. A dedicated
container costs more overall but may be suitable for a complete
household.
Sea Freight or Air Freight
Sea freight generally offers better value for furniture and larger
volumes. Air freight provides speed but is normally more expensive for
heavy or bulky goods.
UK Collection Access
Parking, stairs, lifts, long carries and restricted vehicle access can
affect the collection cost. Give accurate information before the quote is
confirmed.
Bahrain Delivery Access
Building security, lift reservations, parking, long carries and restricted
delivery hours can affect the destination service. Provide the final area
and property type when known.
Professional Packing
Standard export packing, specialist crating, artwork preparation,
dismantling, piano handling and high-value goods all affect the total
quotation.
Customs Duty and VAT
Industry customs guides commonly state that qualifying used household
goods and personal effects may be imported without customs duty when the
customer is establishing residence in Bahrain, owns the goods, imports
them within the permitted period and provides a valid residence permit
and CPR card.
New goods, commercial quantities and certain item categories can be
treated differently and may attract customs duty, VAT or inspection
charges. Computers, musical instruments and media are among the
categories that specialist destination guides frequently identify for
additional attention.
Do not assume that every item will be exempt. Bahrain Customs makes the
final assessment based on the documents, status, inventory, value,
quantity and condition of the goods.
Storage and Delay Charges
Incomplete documents or delayed authorisation can lead to port,
warehouse, demurrage, handling or examination charges. The clearance file
should be prepared before the shipment arrives.
